Pastels are BACK.
I'm sure you've noticed...
These subtle shades hold a not-so-subtle presence on Pinterest boards, fashion magazines, design blogs, and 2014 runways.
This trend intrigues me, since I am a color-enthusiast and 80's child (I remember my pale blue embellished unicorn sweatshirt fondly).

For example, pastels were trademark colors of the 1950's. This decade was right on the heels of two major world wars and the largest depression in America's history.
In the 1980's, America headed into an era of booming prosperity after the social and economic upheavals of the 60s and 70s (including more wars). Light-hearted pastels matched the free-for-all attitudes of the times.
What does our return to pastels say about our decade? Are we longing for relief from the great recession, wars in Iraq and Afganistan, major natural disasters, mass shootings, even 9/11 and the war on terror?
Maybe so, or maybe fashion is just completing its cycle.
Whatever the reason, these mellow colors now have a strong standing.
